Ethereum and Base Split Over Account Abstraction Standards

Ethereum and Base have parted ways on account abstraction standards after a joint effort collapsed last week. The split means wallet developers must now bridge fragmented standards across chains.

The reason for the split lies in their differing priorities: Ethereum focuses on censorship resistance, privacy, and long-term security, while Base prioritizes scalability, configurability, and compliance features suited to commercial applications.

Ethlabs researcher Derek Chiang confirmed that EIP-8130 and EIP-8141 will now proceed as separate proposals. Chiang stated that the collaboration between Ethereum L1 and Base was a predictable outcome given their differing priorities.
