Ethereum and BNB Smart Chain High-Risk Addresses Linked to Over $574 Million in Losses
A recent study published at USENIX Security '26 has uncovered high-risk crypto addresses on Ethereum and BNB Smart Chain, linked to estimated losses of over $574.8 million.
The research identified two new attack methods exploiting contract address creation and delegated account control, causing about $15.7 million in losses.
The study analyzed 63,004 GitHub repositories and achieved a detection precision of 99.11%, although it only covers native tokens and excludes other assets like NFTs.
Researchers recommend better wallet warnings, secret management, and clearer documentation to reduce such risks, with plans to expand analysis to more chains and tokens.
