Ethereum and Solana Face Dilemma Over Validator Subsidies
Ethereum and Solana are facing a dilemma that will lead to centralization on one of their platforms. Both chains incentivize validators by issuing new tokens, but they want to reduce these issuance subsidies.
Ethereum's proposed adjustments face strong opposition, while Solana's proposal is currently being voted on with the voting concluding on August 18th.
Maintaining current validator staking rewards would make the staking sector more favorable for large institutional service providers with substantial capital. Cutting rewards would put pressure on smaller node operators whose operational costs are fixed and profit margins are already razor-thin.
The eventual outcome of either path is a decline in the number of validators, which will lead to centralization on one of the platforms.
