Ethereum Blob Usage Surpasses Previous Peaks, Developers Eye Further Expansion

Ethereum's blob usage has reached an all-time high, surpassing previous peaks recorded in late 2025. According to data, the three-day moving average stands at 5.9 blobs per block, while the daily average is a record 6.7.

The current demand accounts for only about 40% to 50% of Ethereum's 14-blob target, leaving substantial capacity despite stronger rollup activity. Despite this, developers are considering increasing blob limits from the current maximum of 21 blobs to 32 blobs.

This decision aims to balance cheaper Layer 2 fees against higher bandwidth demands and limited client-team funding across the network today.
