Ethereum Blobs See 11-18X Computing Work Reduction with New Prototype
A new Ethereum prototype has shown that assigning blob-recovery duties among nodes can significantly reduce computing work. In simulations of 1,000-node networks, the reduced design resulted in an estimated 11-18× reduction in reconstruction computing work.
The study by researcher Csaba Kiraly suggests that operators could reduce duplicated work through a smaller change than the full RowDAS networking proposal. The reduced design assigns particular blobs to high-custody nodes first, allowing others to receive the recovered data instead of immediately rebuilding it themselves.
The simulations showed that with four blobs and 10% supernodes, the estimated network-wide reconstruction cost fell from 48.6 CPU-seconds under the PeerDAS model to 2.75 CPU-seconds under the reduced design.
