Ethereum Briefly Tops $1,900 as Crypto Market Defies Weak Sentiment
The crypto market is experiencing mixed results on August 17, with some assets defying weak sentiment and others struggling to gain traction. Bitcoin's price has stabilized at $63,500 despite a drop in consumer confidence, which has reached an all-time low according to Glassnode.
Altcoins are also showing varying levels of performance, with Ethereum (ETH) briefly surpassing the $1,900 mark before retreating to $1,902. Meanwhile, PumpFun and Hyperliquid have seen gains of over 3% despite the negative market sentiment.
Despite a recent report by Glassnode highlighting the drop in consumer confidence, which has led to consumers abandoning cash for equities and AI stocks, the crypto market is not showing significant declines. The US-Iran ceasefire deal's extension has also been overshadowed by Goldman Sachs' dovish outlook on interest rates.
Derivatives volumes have surged 72% after a weekend slump, with Ethereum futures volumes reaching $5.26 billion on Binance. Short liquidations are on the rise, taking over from long buyers who dominated the market over the weekend.
