Ethereum Cements Its Place as a Decentralised Finance Powerhouse
Ethereum's journey from its launch in July 2015 to becoming the second-largest cryptocurrency has been monumental. Its first price on public exchanges was $2.77, but it reached an all-time high of approximately $4,953.73 on August 24, 2025.
The largest achievement of Ethereum is proving that blockchain can be more than a way to transfer value, according to Vikas M Sachdeva, CEO of BitDelta India. He notes that the introduction of smart contracts has enabled innovations like DeFi, stablecoins, tokenisation, NFTs, and thousands of decentralised applications.
Rajagopal Menon, Vice President of WazirX, believes that Ethereum gave Web3 builders a programmable foundation and made permissionless innovation possible at scale. Over the past decade, it has evolved into critical infrastructure for decentralised finance, stablecoins, and tokenised real-world assets.
