Ethereum Censorship Row Erupts Over Staking Rewards Cap Proposal
Ethereum's staking rewards cap proposal (EIP-8363) has sparked controversy after accusations of censorship emerged. Pro-crypto attorney Gabriel Shapiro claimed that one Ethereum core developer deleted about 50 comments critical of EIP-8363 from the $ETH Magicians forum, citing 'dirty tactics.'
The proposal aims to cap rewards at zero if the staking ratio hits 50% of the total ETH circulating supply. As of now, validators are signaling only 3% support for the plan, with the rest opposing it.
One developer blamed for deleting posts said the move was meant to remove duplicate accounts (sockpuppet accounts), which have been spun up by critics using AI-generated content ('AI slop'). However, analysts argue that this censorship would only encourage more opposition and is 'concerning.'
