A proposed Ethereum Improvement Proposal (EIP) to cap staking rewards has been met with overwhelming opposition from the community. According to data from ETHVA, out of 83K staked ETH amongst validators, 99.7% were signaling 'No' on the proposal.

The proposal, EIP-8361, aims to reduce inflation by capping staking rewards at zero if the staking ratio crosses 50%. However, critics led by Aave argue that this would harm credit markets and push DeFi to other chains.

Aave CEO Stani Kulechov slammed the Ethereum Foundation (EF), stating that their 'ivory tower academic approach' is disconnected from builders in the trenches. Rhett Shipp, CEO of Avant Protocol, echoed a similar sentiment, saying the proposal showed EF's 'huge lack of focus on things that will actually have impact.'

The community's negative response to the proposal has caused Ethereum market sentiment to drop into negative territory, with the price remaining below $2K.
