Ethereum Congestion Not a Bullish Signal, Expert Warns
The Ethereum network is experiencing a significant backlog of validators wanting to stake on the platform. Approximately 2.5 million ETH are waiting in the activation queue, resulting in a wait time of around 43 days for new staking participants.
This congestion has led some to believe that it's a direct sign of strong bullish sentiment, but Thomas Brunner, Head of Custody and Staking at Sygnum Bank, disagrees. According to Brunner, the technical workings of the Ethereum protocol are significantly contributing to this backlog.
Brunner notes that the daily validator login capacity was limited to approximately 57,600 ETH following the Dencun update, and this limit has not been increased with the Pectra update. This means that even small additions to existing validators can contribute to the congestion in the queue.
So what does Brunner consider a stronger signal of bullish sentiment? He points to the nearly empty exit queue, which indicates that investors are continuing to hold their positions on the network. In fact, almost nobody is terminating their staking positions, reflecting genuine trust and confidence in Ethereum.
