Ethereum Delays Glamsterdam Upgrade to Late 2026
Ethereum developers have delayed the target timeline for the next mainnet upgrade, Glamsterdam, to the fourth quarter of 2026. This decision reflects the increasing difficulty of coordinating network-wide upgrades on Ethereum, which processes billions of dollars in transactions daily.
The delay gives developers additional time to test on the newly launched Platåberget public testnet and expand testing to other testnets before Glamsterdam reaches mainnet. This extra time is intended to minimize the risk of network disruptions, which have historically caused significant market volatility and trust issues.
In parallel, Ethereum core developers are reviewing 66 Ethereum Improvement Proposals (EIPs) proposed for Hegotá, the upgrade following Glamsterdam. The goal is to finalize priority candidates by the end of this month, though many proposals are likely to be deferred to later upgrades as the team weighs the timeline and development resources.
