Ethereum Derivatives Market Sees Sharp $2.55 Billion Taker Buy Volume Surge
An analysis of Ethereum's derivatives market revealed that taker buy volume surged to $2.55 billion in a single hour, marking its third-highest level in about six months.
The sharp increase in taker buy volume indicates stronger short-term buying pressure, but it is unclear whether this is driven by fresh long positions or short covering as rising prices triggered short liquidations.
CryptoQuant contributor MorenoDV noted that more confirmation is needed to determine the cause of the surge. He pointed out that open interest (OI) and Ethereum's price action will be key indicators to watch next, particularly if OI rises alongside a sustained price above the breakout zone.
If strong taker buying continues while OI increases and Ether holds its gains, it would signal fresh long positions entering the market. However, if OI falls alongside large liquidations, the surge may be temporary buying tied to short covering rather than new capital entering the market.
