Ethereum Developers Accused of Censoring Criticism on Staking Rewards Cap Proposal
Ethereum developers are facing scrutiny for allegedly deleting comments opposing EIP-8363, a staking rewards cap proposal. The controversy centers around ETH Magicians, a forum where researchers and community members discuss technical upgrades and improvement proposals.
Pro-crypto attorney Gabriel Shapiro claimed that one Ethereum core developer deleted about 50 comments critical of the proposal. He described this move as 'dirty tactics' as the situation got 'out of hand.'
In defense, a developer accused of deleting posts said it was to remove duplicate accounts, also known as sockpuppet accounts, which had been spun up by critics using AI-generated content.
Aave CEO Stani Kulechov expressed concern over the developers' tactics, saying that censorship would only encourage more opposition. Ether.Fi's Mike Silagadze and other DeFi leaders have also spoken out against EIP-8363, arguing it would harm Ethereum credit markets and solo stakers.
Currently, validators are signaling 3% support for the proposal, with the rest of the community opposing it. The debate over EIP-8363 has sparked concerns about censorship and transparency within the Ethereum developer community.
