Ethereum Developers Propose Tapered Issuance Burn Mechanism

Ethereum developers have submitted a new proposal to modify validator rewards in response to growing staking on the network.

The draft Core EIP, known as Tapered Issuance Burn (EIP-8361), aims to reduce validator incentives once approximately half of Ethereum's supply is actively staked.

Currently, validators earn a fixed minimum reward for their attestations and block proposals. Under the proposed model, this reward would gradually decline as more ETH enters staking.

The burn rate would increase with rising staking ratios, eventually reaching 100% when around 60.25 million ETH is actively staked, representing about half of the current supply.
