Ethereum Developers Sound Alarm for L1 Contracts Ahead of Glamsterdam Upgrade

Ethereum developers have issued an alert for users of Level 1 (L1) contracts on the ETH mainnet ahead of the Glamsterdam upgrade, which is scheduled to take place in Q4 2026.

The upgrade will introduce gas repricings, specifically EIP-8037 and EIP-8038, that modify the cost of creating and accessing state. This change aims to reflect the actual work required for each operation, rather than relying on hardcoded gas values.

A small set of smart contracts may break or degrade without updates, as they rely on assumptions about the new schedule. However, most contracts are unaffected, and a direct outreach is already underway with the builders of the affected contracts.
