Ethereum Developers Target Privacy Changes for 2027 Upgrade
Ethereum developers are considering changes to the network's protocol architecture that could improve user privacy and reduce reliance on third-party services.
The team, led by Ethereum Foundation researcher Toni Wahrstätter, wants to prioritize two proposals for the upcoming Hegotá upgrade in 2027: Frame Transactions (EIP-8141) and Fork-Choice Enforced Inclusion Lists (FOCIL), or EIP-7805.
According to Wahrstätter, these proposals would enable privacy pools where the pool itself can pay fees without intermediaries. The Frame Transactions package also includes Transaction Assertions (EIP-7906), which would let wallets set conditions on what a transaction can do after it is submitted.
The Ethereum Foundation has 66 proposals under consideration for the Hegotá upgrade, with FOCIL currently the only confirmed addition. Wahrstätter emphasized that prioritizing these changes is crucial to meet the project's goals and deadlines.
