Ethereum Ecosystem Sees Explosive Growth in August
The Ethereum ecosystem saw significant growth in August, driven by advancements in Layer-2 upgrades, institutional adoption, and ecosystem development.
Gnosis DAO approved a vote to transition Gnosis Chain from its own Layer-1 network to a ZK-proven Ethereum Layer-2 rollup with synchronous composability. This shift will allow applications on Gnosis and Ethereum to interact within a single transaction.
BlackRock expanded tokenization on Ethereum, introducing a Select Treasury Based Liquidity Fund with a tokenized share class deployed on Ethereum mainnet. The asset manager also began tokenizing share classes tied to its $311 billion European money market fund series on the network.
The Layer-2 ecosystem continued to advance, with Arbitrum activating its ArbOS Elara upgrade and increasing Stylus smart contract capacity fourfold. Whitechain announced plans to transition from an independent Layer-1 into an Ethereum Layer-2 built on the OP Stack.
Privacy-focused development remained active in August, with Aztec Network launching Alpha v5 and reducing private transaction proving times. MetaMask launched its Agent Wallet, which includes features such as spending limits, allowlists, and configurable risk profiles.
