Ethereum EIP-8141 Upgrade Set to Overhaul Crypto Transactions and Fees
Ethereum is set to undergo a significant upgrade with the introduction of EIP-8141, an updated Ethereum Improvement Proposal published by Vitalik Buterin. This proposal rewrites how wallets sign, batch, and pay, aiming to overhaul crypto transactions and fees.
The upgrade, which will be part of the next Ethereum update called Hegotá, introduces 'frame transactions' that can carry up to 64 steps in a fixed order. If any single step fails, the entire transaction fails, eliminating a common failure mode where an approval is successful but the subsequent swap fails.
Buterin's proposal also targets seed phrases, detaching accounts from their original keys and allowing users to rotate keys or rebuild access through a second device or trusted contact. This change could help prevent lost funds due to forgotten seed phrases.
The upgrade also includes changes to gas fees, with the introduction of paymasters that allow any app to pay a user's fee, making it easier for newcomers to participate without having to buy Ethereum first.
