Ethereum Embarks on Massive Overhaul with Quantum-Resistant Roadmap

Vitalik Buterin, the founder of Ethereum (ETH), has released a new draft of the network's long-term roadmap. The plan calls for a massive overhaul of the network, which will take three to four years to complete.

The rebuild will involve nearly every core technical element of the chain being rebuilt. This includes implementing cryptography resistant to quantum-computer attacks and creating native privacy features.

Five 'north stars' have been set for Ethereum as part of this roadmap. These goals include scaling its throughput capacity, achieving transaction finality in seconds, and handling 10 million transactions per second on layer 2 chains.

The new direction of Ethereum could attract more users and capital to the network. However, it's unlikely that this will automatically enrich Ether holders. The base fee burn depends on congestion rather than total throughput, and scaling up layer 2 chains has already led to a net inflationary supply in 2026.
