Ethereum Enters Corporate Treasuries with BitMine Acquisition
BitMine has acquired 53,501 ETH for its corporate treasury in a $131 million deal. This move highlights the growing trend of public companies holding Ethereum as part of their digital asset reserves.
The purchase is significant not only because of the size but also because it shows that some companies are now comfortable treating Ethereum as a separate strategic asset, rather than just copying Bitcoin's treasury playbook.
Ethereum offers a broader technology and infrastructure narrative compared to Bitcoin, which has traditionally been seen as digital gold. However, this also comes with different risks, including protocol upgrades, regulatory interpretation, staking-market dynamics, and competition from other smart contract networks.
The market should not read this as Ethereum replacing Bitcoin in corporate treasuries. Bitcoin still dominates the reserve-asset identity among digital assets, but Ethereum is gaining a clearer role as companies explore its advantages in tokenization, network fees, stablecoin settlement, DeFi infrastructure, and programmable finance.
