Ethereum Eyes Bitcoin-Style UTXO Scaling Solution
Ethereum is exploring ways to improve its blockchain scaling capabilities by incorporating Bitcoin-style UTXOs (Unspent Transaction Outputs), according to Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum. This hybrid approach would combine Ethereum's account system with the UTXO state system.
The proposed architecture would enable various activities to take place using different states depending on the needs of the activity, while maintaining decentralization, censorship resistance, and availability of nodes.
Native UTXOs could cut down payment state by about 99.8% for payment applications, as proposed by Toni Wahrstätter. Recursive STARKs are also being researched to solve bandwidth consumption issues associated with the growing Ethereum network.
