Ethereum Foundation Cuts Audit Costs with $1 Million Subsidy Program

The Ethereum Foundation has launched a $1 million subsidy program to help reduce audit costs for blockchain developers building on the Ethereum network. The initiative, called the Ethereum Security Subsidy Program, is a partnership with digital asset advisory firm Areta and aims to make security audits more accessible to projects of all sizes.

The program will provide up to 30% coverage of audit costs for selected projects, which can submit their applications through Areta's platform. An expert committee consisting of teams from Chainlink and Nethermind will review the submissions and choose new cohorts every month.

The Ethereum Foundation has set specific criteria for evaluating applicants, including technical merit, a commitment to building on Ethereum, a strong track record, and clear feasibility. The program also prioritizes projects that align with the foundation's CROPS principles, which stand for censorship resistance, open source, privacy, and security.

Areta CEO Fin Boothroyd said the program brings together top-tier audit providers and leading ecosystem organizations to strengthen the blockchain's security posture. This effort is part of the Ethereum Foundation's broader Trillion Dollar Security initiative, launched last year to raise the network's security standards as it scales to handle more complex applications.
