Ethereum Foundation Deploys Simplified Staking Tech for Institutional Adoption
The Ethereum Foundation has taken a significant step towards making distributed staking more accessible to institutions by staking 72,000 ETH using a simplified version of distributed validator technology (DVT-lite). Co-founder Vitalik Buterin announced this move on X, framing it as a proof-of-concept aimed at large ETH holders.
DVT-lite is designed to be easier to deploy and manage than traditional DVT, which distributes private keys across many coordinating nodes. The new system loads the same validator key onto several machines, with automatic failover if one goes down. Buterin explained that users can simply load the key onto multiple computers, make a config file, and everything will set up automatically.
This move comes as 37.5 million ETH (about 31% of the total supply) is currently staked on the network. Despite this demand, control over validator infrastructure has been concentrated among a small number of professional staking providers. Buterin hopes that more large ETH holders will follow his lead and use DVT-lite.
