Ethereum Foundation Funds WEBCAT Tool for Verifiable Web Frontends

The Ethereum Foundation's Ecosystem Support Program has awarded a grant to the Freedom of the Press Foundation to develop WEBCAT, a tool designed to make web application frontends verifiable and censorship-resistant.

WEBCAT focuses on in-browser code verification, allowing users to confirm that the code running in their browser matches what developers intended to ship. This is particularly important for Ethereum wallets and dApps, where a compromised frontend can drain funds without touching the smart contract layer.

The Freedom of the Press Foundation, known for its SecureDrop whistleblower submission system, has extended this philosophy to browser-based applications. By verifying that client-side code hasn't been altered, WEBCAT aims to prevent silently modified interfaces from being served to users.
