Ethereum Foundation Releases Priority List for Hegota Update: Key Proposals Revealed
The Ethereum Foundation Protocol has released a priority list of 62 development proposals (EIPs) related to the upcoming Hegota update. The top two proposals, FOCIL and Frame Transactions, will be implemented by default, and their integration is considered crucial for the success of the update.
FOCIL (Fork-Choice Enforced Inclusion Lists, EIP-7805) aims to strengthen the network's resistance to censorship. It allows a committee of validators to force certain valid, public transactions into blocks, making it harder for dominant block builders to suppress or remove these transactions.
Frame Transactions (EIP-8141), on the other hand, introduces native support for account abstraction in Ethereum. This means that transactions can be broken down into separate components for validation, gas payment, and execution, allowing accounts to operate more flexibly. This also improves security and paves the way for quantum-resistant signatures.
The Ethereum Foundation Protocol aims to make Ethereum quantum-resistant by 2029, with the Hegota update being a crucial step towards this goal. The update will not make Ethereum quantum-resistant on its own but will prepare the ground for future updates that will achieve this objective.
