The Ethereum Foundation has opened a role for an AI security researcher to work on finding vulnerabilities across Ethereum's core infrastructure.

The researcher will join the Protocol Security team and investigate weaknesses in various parts of the network, including the execution layer, consensus layer, peer-to-peer network, technical specifications, and client programs.

The role requires extensive knowledge of the Ethereum protocol, with a preference for engineers who have contributed directly to protocol development or understand execution-layer and consensus-layer specifications.

The hiring follows recent tests by the Protocol Security team using coordinated AI agents against protocol code, cryptographic software, and other systems used by the network. The tests uncovered genuine flaws, but also highlighted the need for human review to separate real bugs from false positives.
