Ethereum Foundation Sets Aggressive 2029 Deadline for Quantum Resistance
The Ethereum Foundation has set a deadline of December 2029 to make the network quantum-resistant. This goal targets full quantum resistance across all three layers: execution, consensus, and data.
The foundation's priorities blog states that planning for 'Q-day' in 2030 is an aggressive assumption. They acknowledge that this target matches migration timelines independently set by Google, Cloudflare, and Microsoft.
The Protocol cluster will treat the deadline as non-negotiable at least until January 2027, when outside experts help reassess quantum progress. Roughly 65% of Ethereum (ETH) already sits in quantum-vulnerable addresses, according to Project Eleven.
