Ethereum Foundation Stakes 72,000 ETH in Proof-of-Concept for Institutional Adoption
The Ethereum Foundation has taken a significant step towards making distributed staking more accessible to institutions. In February, they staked 72,000 ETH using a simplified version of distributed validator technology (DVT-lite), which is designed for institutional adoption.
According to Vitalik Buterin, the co-founder of the Ethereum Foundation, DVT-lite is a proof-of-concept aimed at reducing operational complexity. He framed it as a way to make distributed staking accessible to institutions with large ETH holdings.
The assets are currently sitting in the validator entry queue and will be activated on March 19. Buterin explained that users can choose which computers run their nodes, load the same validator key onto multiple machines, and then set up automatic failover in case one machine goes down.
This approach takes a simpler approach than standard solo staking, which runs on a single machine and requires manual intervention if it crashes or goes offline. DVT-lite also differs from full DVT, which distributes private keys across many coordinating nodes but is technically demanding to deploy.
