Ethereum Foundation Suffers Another Leadership Blow as Stańczak Steps Down
Tomasz Stańczak is leaving his role as co-executive director at the Ethereum Foundation, effective February's end. He took on this position in March 2025 alongside Hsiao-Wei Wang, part of a governance overhaul that moved Aya Miyaguchi to president.
The restructuring was prompted by community criticism over transparency and conflict-of-interest concerns tied to senior researchers' external advisory roles, as previously reported by CoinDesk. Stańczak listed faster internal decision-making, clearer compensation guidelines, and more open institutional engagement among his achievements during his tenure.
Bastian Aue has been appointed interim co-executive director, but the foundation's long-term leadership remains unresolved. Stańczak plans to remain active in the Ethereum ecosystem as a core developer, focusing on delegated governance and development. Vitalik Buterin praised Stańczak's work, noting he increased efficiency and explored AI's role in blockchain systems.
