Ethereum Foundation Tackles Quantum Threats with Post-Quantum Security Team
The Ethereum Foundation has established a Post-Quantum Ethereum team to address potential quantum computing threats to the network. The team's plan is to integrate quantum-resistant solutions at the protocol level by 2029. They will prioritize standard Ethereum wallets, which hold the largest concentration of value on the network.
According to the team, solutions targeting the execution layer will follow after the initial 2029 milestone. Quantum computing has raised concerns across the blockchain industry regarding the security of private keys and wallet infrastructure. Analysts differ on the degree of exposure, with some arguing that only wallets with exposed public keys are at risk.
The Post-Quantum team is building SNARK-based signature solutions using Zero-Knowledge Succinct Non-Interactive Argument of Knowledge technology to avoid performance costs associated with other quantum-safe alternatives.
