Ethereum Founders' Diverging Paths 11 Years After Genesis Block
The Ethereum protocol's Genesis Block was mined on July 30, 2015, marking an important milestone in its development. Eleven years later, the chain has grown to become the second most significant blockchain in the cryptocurrency ecosystem, with a market capitalization of over $230 billion according to CoinGecko.
Its eight official founders have each profited greatly from their involvement, but where are they now? One such founder is Vitalik Buterin, who remains deeply involved with the Ethereum Foundation and is often criticized for not doing enough to support the project or its price.
Anthony Di Iorio, another co-founder, attempted to exit the crypto ecosystem in 2021, citing safety concerns. However, his new firm, Andiami, appears to be making slow progress on its goal of building tools for a decentralized future.
Charles Hoskinson, who founded Cardano after leaving Ethereum, has seen his chain underperform compared to Ethereum year-to-date, losing approximately 55% of its value. His time at Ethereum was marked by controversy, including extraordinary claims that he was Satoshi Nakamoto.
