Ethereum Founders' Fading Presence Amid Blockchain Dominance
The Ethereum protocol's Genesis Block was mined on July 30, 2015. The chain has become the second most important blockchain in the cryptocurrency ecosystem and has reached a market capitalization of over $230 billion.
Vitalik Buterin is perhaps the individual most strongly identified with the Ethereum project. He continues to work deeply on the Ethereum project and remains involved with the Ethereum Foundation, which has led to criticism from some traders who feel the foundation isn't doing enough to support the project or its price.
Many of the other founders have moved on from Ethereum. Anthony Di Iorio, for example, attempted to exit the crypto ecosystem in 2021 and told Bloomberg that he didn't 'feel necessarily safe' in the space. He's since founded a firm called Andiami, which claims to be building tools for a decentralized future, but it hasn't been active since early 2023.
Charles Hoskinson left Ethereum due to controversy and went on to found Cardano. Hoskinson has also attempted non-crypto projects like his failed Hoskinson Health and Wellness Clinic. Year-to-date, Ethereum has lost around 36% of its value while Cardano has lost approximately 55%.
