Ethereum Genesis Wallets Stir from Deep Storage, Deliver Staggering Gains
Ethereum's early days have seen a resurgence in activity as Genesis-era wallets begin to stir from deep storage. One such wallet, caught by Whale Alert on August 11, had been dormant for 11 years and contained 2,680 ETH worth $5.03 million. This represents a staggering 605,924% gain since its initial value of $830 in 2014.
The Genesis-era coins were allocated during Ethereum's crowdsale in July 2014, where early buyers grabbed ETH for a mere $0.31 per coin. When this particular wallet finally moved its funds, ether traded at $1,883.66 per unit, turning the original $830 bet into a cool $5 million.
This is not an isolated incident; two more Genesis wallets were spotted moving 2,000 ETH each in July, with one landing on Coinbase and the other scattered across several ETH wallets. The repeated awakenings among early ETH holders are raising questions about whether some of these investors are watching similar market signals and deciding it's time to take action.
