Ethereum Genesis Whales Stir After 11-Year Slumber
The earliest Ethereum wallets have started to move again after years of inactivity. In July and August 2026, several Genesis wallets transferred millions of dollars' worth of ETH. One such transaction involved a dormant wallet that had not been active for over 11 years and contained 2,680 ETH worth approximately $5.03 million at the time. However, its value in current-day dollars is around $830, representing a staggering 605,000% return.
The Genesis wallets refer to coins held by the earliest users of Ethereum, acquired during the 2014 crowdsale and activated upon launch. These early buyers purchased ETH at prices far below the current market, resulting in huge unrealized profits over the past decade. The recent transfers have attracted attention due to their massive value.
According to Arkham Intelligence data, the funds from one of these transactions went to Coinbase, placing some of the recently reactivated supply on a centralized exchange. This has led to scrutiny surrounding other dormant wallet activity, including cryptocurrencies that have remained inactive through multiple market cycles.
