Ethereum Hegotá Upgrade Narrows Focus on Censorship Resistance and Post-Quantum Security

The Ethereum Foundation has announced the results of the Hegotá upgrade, which reviewed 62 EIPs (Ethereum Improvement Proposals) to determine which ones will be included in the upcoming protocol update. The top two proposals are FOCIL (EIP-7805) and Frame Transactions (EIP-8141), both of which received high ratings from developers.

FOCIL aims to enable transactions to be added to blocks without relying on centralized transaction builders, reducing the risk of censorship. Frame Transactions, on the other hand, seeks to enhance Ethereum's account-abstraction features, preparing the network for a future where it uses post-quantum authentication methods.

The Hegotá upgrade has been scoped around high-priority changes, particularly those related to censorship resistance, account abstraction, and post-quantum security. A total of 28 EIPs were rejected due to concerns about protocol complexities, security issues, and incompatibility with Ethereum's long-term development goals.

The Foundation's protocol cluster reviewed the proposals using feedback from around 60 researchers and engineers. The ranking process involved 397 individual tier grades across 16 contribution templates, producing a unified ranking rather than separate opinions from different teams.
