Ethereum Improvement Proposal EIP-8363 Sparks Debate Over Staking Concentration
Joseph Chalom, CEO of SharpLink and former BlackRock executive, has expressed his opposition to Ethereum improvement proposal EIP-8363. This initiative aims to progressively burn validator rewards to limit the amount of ETH in staking, effectively eliminating issuance yield altogether if 50% of tokens are deposited.
The proposed measure, dubbed 'Tapered Issuance Burn,' would increase the cost of capital and harm the DeFi sector, according to Chalom. He argues that by limiting staking profitability, Ethereum would lose its competitive advantage over Bitcoin: generating native yield.
Industry leaders like Stani Kulechov (Aave) back SharpLink's stance, warning that it would hurt mass adoption. Although EIP-8363 aims to disincentivize excessive staking concentration, the community is debating whether this measure will be implemented in future network upgrades.
