Ethereum L2 Networks Surpass Mainnet Activity
Ethereum's Layer 2 (L2) networks are experiencing significant growth, handling nearly 30 million transactions per day and accounting for 97% of total Ethereum ecosystem throughput. This shift in activity has led to a notable rotation in the market, with L2s and DeFi tokens outperforming major sectors.
The data shows that L2 networks now process approximately 29.95 million transactions per day, compared to only 1.97 million on Ethereum mainnet. Additionally, they account for 97% of total Ethereum ecosystem throughput, processing around 92.4 million gas units per second versus 2.52 million on mainnet.
The biggest L2 networks are attracting more capital, with Base securing about $14.51 billion and Arbitrum holding roughly $12.47 billion. This growth has spilled into token markets, with ARB surging more than 120% after accelerating activity around Robinhood Chain.
