Ethereum Network Activity Takes a Hit as New Active Addresses Plunge 43%

Ethereum's network activity has taken a significant hit in recent months. Data from The Block reveals that new active addresses on the Ethereum network have plummeted by 43% over the past three months, dropping from 138,620 on June 27 to around 89,000 in early July.

August saw fluctuations between 80,000 and 95,000 before rebounding above 100,000 at month's end. However, this upward trend was short-lived, and new active addresses fell to 78,100 on September 24, marking a 23.43% decline.

Total active addresses have also decreased, dropping from 702,857 on June 9 to 574,073 by September 22, representing an 18.32% decrease.

A drop in new active addresses often signals decreased user engagement, leading to reduced overall network activity and transaction volume. The Block data supports this trend, showing a total volume of large transactions on Ethereum peaking at 2.91 million on July 5 before falling to 1.79 million by September 29, a 38.4% decrease.

Despite these concerning figures, there's a glimmer of hope. Market intelligence platform Santiment reports that Ethereum network activity is starting to pick up, but this increase coincides with rising gas fees.
