Ethereum on the Cusp: Tom Lee Sees Breakout Potential
Tom Lee, co-founder of Fundstrat, continues to show support for Ethereum (CRYPTO: ETH) despite its recent price action. In a recent post on TradingView, Lee stated that an ETH breakout from its daily Ichimoku cloud would be 'good to see,' as the cryptocurrency trades just 3.5% away from triggering a bullish trend signal.
The Ichimoku cloud is currently sitting at around $1,970, and a daily close above this level would mark the first time in over ten months that ETH has broken through this resistance. Lee's comment suggests that he believes this breakout could be imminent.
Lee also highlighted the Ethereum/BTC ratio, which has recently broken above its long-term downtrend for the first time in years. He attributed this move to growing interest in tokenization and agentic AI applications running on Ethereum.
In a broader context, Lee compared the current cycle of investment in AI infrastructure to the construction of the transcontinental railroad in the US during the 19th century. He noted that the government is currently spending around 2.5% of GDP on AI development, similar to what was spent building the railroad.
Lee's comments suggest that he believes the growth potential for Ethereum and related technologies is significant, and that investors should be prepared for a potentially large increase in the ETH/BTC ratio.
