Ethereum Outpaces Bitcoin as Altcoin Season Remains Uncertain
The crypto market has shown signs of improvement, but whether it's an altcoin season remains uncertain. TradingView's OTHERS index gained 19% over seven days on August 26, while the TOTAL3 index, excluding Bitcoin and Ether, advanced around 15%. However, the OTHERS-to-Bitcoin ratio fell about 1.9% during the week, indicating that much of the rebound occurred within a BTC-led market.
CoinMarketCap's Altcoin Season Index has not yet reached its threshold for altcoin season, standing at 37 out of 100. This distinction matters as rising dollar prices alone do not establish an altcoin season. The platform defines altcoin season when 75% of eligible top-100 coins outperform Bitcoin over 90 days.
BTC remained the largest force in the market, with dominance near 59.7%. The price structure still keeps attention on the $80,000 level, which remains immediate resistance, followed by $82,000 and $85,000.
