Ethereum Poised for Comeback: Experts Predict Price Surge in 2025
As 2025 approaches, the rivalry between Ethereum and Solana has become a hot topic among market analysts. Both cryptocurrencies have experienced significant growth in 2024.
Solana recently surpassed Ethereum on several crucial fronts, including application revenue and decentralized exchange (DEX) volume. In December, Solana recorded approximately $141 million in application income, compared to Ethereum's $93.56 million. Additionally, Solana's DEX volume achieved a significant $67.43 billion, outstripping Ethereum's $52.37 billion.
Despite this trend, Bitwise CIO Matt Hougan suggests that Ethereum could overtake Solana by 2025. He highlights the rapidly evolving ecosystem of Ethereum and notes the implementation of Layer-2 solutions such as Base, Optimism, and Arbitrum. These enhancements improve Ethereum's scalability, narrowing the gap between institutional trust and daily accessibility.
Hougan also criticizes outdated perceptions of Ethereum as slow and costly. He cites successful projects like Clanker and Virtuals on the Ethereum Base network, demonstrating Ethereum's capacity for fostering innovation while maintaining robust infrastructure.
