Ethereum Price Drops 2% After Failing to Sustain Breakout Above $2,600
Ethereum's price took a hit after a brief push above $2,600 failed to sustain momentum, leaving it vulnerable to further weakness ahead of key US events.
The cryptocurrency fell approximately 2% over the past 24 hours, trading near $2,475 on September 15. This decline occurred despite a sharp rejection above $2,600, where buyers were unable to maintain a breakout.
According to Daan Crypto Trades, this move can be attributed to traders pre-positioning before the U.S. Senate's CLARITY Act vote and the Federal Open Market Committee meeting. The analyst suggests that the initial rally may have removed leveraged short positions, while the subsequent decline forced out long traders.
On the 4-hour chart, Ethereum has moved below the Bollinger Band midpoint at $2,509.64, placing immediate support near $2,469 and resistance near $2,550. The Average Directional Index is at 17.73, indicating weak trend strength and a potential range-bound period for ETH.
The daily MACD has turned bearish, with the histogram showing negative momentum behind the August rally. Liquidation clusters frame the next Ethereum move, with a stronger pocket of downside liquidity appearing around $2,390-$2,410.
