Ethereum Price Faces Uncertain Future Amid Divergent Analyst Forecasts

Ethereum's price has been hovering around $1,858, and market analysts are divided on its future prospects. Citi's target of $3,175 is the most conservative among major banks, while Standard Chartered's end-2026 call of $7,500 implies a significant upside of 304%.

The bank forecasts have undergone three revision cycles this year, with Citi citing 'slow progress on U.S. crypto market-structure legislation' and weakening on-chain user activity as reasons for its cut to $3,175 from $4,304 earlier in the year. Standard Chartered's Geoffrey Kendrick has been more bullish, declaring 2026 will be the year of Ethereum, with his target based on the dominance of Ethereum in stablecoins and institutional accumulation.

The flows into and out of Ethereum ETFs suggest that institutions are still hesitant to commit to either side of the trade. BlackRock's ETHA accounted for an overwhelming majority of net inflows last week, but this was largely driven by a single allocator's conviction rather than a genuine institutional rotation.
