Ethereum Price Falls as SGX Expands US Access, Vitalik Proposes Quantum-Safe Upgrade
The Ethereum price has fallen by 1.8% in the past 24 hours to $2,471.75, with a market capitalization of $301.6 billion and trading volume of $12.8 billion.
The Singapore Exchange (SGX) has received clearance from the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission to allow U.S. institutional investors to trade its BTC and ETH perpetual futures directly. SGX launched these contracts in November 2025, with cumulative trading volume reaching around $5.8 billion since then.
The exchange plans to roll out fixed-term futures and options tied to BTC and ETH, which could give American institutions a wider set of regulated tools for gaining or hedging exposure to Ethereum.
Vitalik Buterin has proposed a new technical upgrade called EIP-8288, which aims to make quantum-safe signatures and private transactions cheaper by moving heavy cryptographic data off the base chain. The proposal is still in its early stages and would require significant development work before it can be implemented.
