The Ethereum network has successfully activated its largest upgrade of 2025, known as Fusaka. This hard fork went live on December 3 and immediately drew market interest, causing the price of ETH to jump.

The mainnet switch to Fusaka merged two key components: the Fulu consensus layer and the Osaka execution layer. The upgrade centers around two technical changes that will significantly impact the network's performance.

Firstly, PeerDAS restructures data handling across nodes, unlocking eight times more data throughput for rollups. Rollups are scaling networks that settle transactions on Ethereum's base layer, allowing them to process more activity at reduced cost.

The second component targets user experience, introducing new cryptographic tools and pre-confirmation mechanisms to speed up transaction processing and simplify wallet interactions. The Ethereum Foundation claims this will particularly benefit mobile users.
