Ethereum Price Outlook Hinges on US Inflation Data Release
The Ethereum price has been experiencing elevated selling pressure across exchanges in August, despite a slight improvement in institutional demand. According to CryptoQuant data, the weekly Exchange Netflow has been climbing higher since the beginning of the month, indicating increased selling pressure.
This metric tracks the net difference between ETH entering exchanges and ETH being moved out. A positive reading implies increasing selling pressure, while a negative reading suggests more ETH is being withdrawn, which would be a bullish signal.
The price drop on August 10th coincided with a sharp spike in the Exchange Netflow, as Ethereum's price fell from $1920 to $1875. Traders have been using the $1800-$1960 price range for potential trading opportunities ahead of the upcoming U.S. inflation data on August 12th.
Cooler inflation data could raise the odds of another Fed rate cut, which would be positive for Ethereum's price. However, higher inflation figures would reinforce ongoing Fed rate hike fears, potentially sending markets lower. The market is currently 50/50 on the Fed's next move, making Wednesday's inflation data a crucial catalyst that could sway the odds and directly affect market sentiment.
