Ethereum Price Struggles to Keep Pace with Network Growth
Ethereum's growing network activity has not yet translated into higher prices for its native token. Despite reaching new highs in layer-2 networks, Ethereum (ETH) remains below $2,000. Analysts point to tokenized assets and institutional demand as potential drivers of future ETH price growth.
Recent data shows that applications running on the Ethereum network generated $1.79 billion in fees during the second quarter. However, the base layer captured only 4.9% of this value, raising questions about whether growing use will eventually support higher prices for ETH.
The network's increasing adoption has led to cheaper transactions and a reduction in ETH being burned. The current staking yield is around 2.6%, while annual supply growth is close to 0.85%. Meanwhile, $17.2 billion in tokenized real-world assets are held on the Ethereum network, which could potentially drive stronger demand for ETH over time.
Market analysts are watching developments closely, with some predicting that institutional adoption and increased use of layer-2 services will eventually boost the price of ETH. Others note that cheaper transactions have reduced income on the base layer, but helped the wider ecosystem grow.
