Ethereum Proposal Aims to Cut Consensus Issuance by 33,800 ETH
A new Ethereum proposal aims to reduce annual consensus issuance by around 33,800 ETH. The Draft EIP-8390 would retire the network's 512-validator sync committee, removing its rewards and making the current Altair light-client interface obsolete.
The proposal estimates that deleting the committee's reward weight would reduce annual consensus issuance by roughly 33,800 ETH. This reduction is based on a snapshot of 901,505 validators and 42,328,615 ETH staked against an estimated 1.082 million ETH in annual consensus issuance.
Ethereum's sync committee provides a compact way for light clients to track the beacon chain without processing the full validator set. However, removing this mechanism would exchange one imperfect trust mechanism for infrastructure that is not yet part of the specification.
