Ethereum Proposal Introduces 'Frames' for Token-Paid Gas
A proposal to modify Ethereum's transaction structure has been quietly advancing for months. Vitalik Buterin mentioned this development on Sunday, stating that it would allow users to pay fees in tokens or have someone else cover them entirely.
The proposed change, EIP-8141, introduces a new concept called 'frames.' Each frame is an ordinary contract call that can validate transactions, approve fee coverage, and execute user actions. This approach breaks the link between the account signing a transaction and the one funding it.
This means that users without ETH can still interact with Ethereum. Wallets holding stablecoins could pay fees in ERC-20 tokens or have an application sponsor their users outright. The proposal also enables batched calls, which group several actions together to succeed or fail as a unit.
