Ethereum Proposal Sparks Heated Debate Over Staking Rewards Capping
A new Ethereum proposal aims to cap staking rewards at 50% of total supply. EIP-8361, dubbed 'Tapered Issuance Burn', would phase out issuance rewards over a period of two years. Proponents argue this will prevent dilution and provide predictability for large investors.
However, Aave founder Stani Kulechov has expressed concerns that the plan will undermine demand for ETH. He believes capping rewards at 50% staked will introduce uncertainty, making it harder to attract serious capital.
Kulechov specifically worries about lending markets within DeFi, as most reasons to borrow ETH would disappear with zero returns. He also fears investors might rotate into other yield-bearing assets instead.
Community members have mixed reactions to the proposal, with some suggesting that rewards should be scaled for solo stakers before moving forward with EIP-8361.
